Choreographing Sound : Using field recordings and sound-spatialisation to transform performance & exhibition spaces

with: Koenraad Ecker

This 3-day workshop will focus on two interlocking creative activities :
Field recording as a specific way of interacting with our environment,
and the subsequent use of your recordings in film, performance
orexhibition spaces to transform our perception of a mental or physical
space.

The first day of the workshop will cover both the artistic reasons for
using field recordings and the technicalities involved. The second day
focuses on techniques for using sound within a space : spatialization,
editing, & basic techniques for transforming sounds with simple
processes (changing pitch, frequency content, perceptual distance) and
creating depth in the soundfield. After this second day, the
participants are invited to make their own field recordings and/or to
use some of the techniques covered in the workshop and then return for a
third day, to present & discuss their recordings.

A basic knowledge of sound recording & editing is recommended, but not obligatory. The participants are invited to bring their own recorders &
headphones. In case you have if any previous experience with audio
editing programs, please specify the program you’re familiar with when
applying for the workshop.
