What is the Common Ground Studio?
After the successful first year, we are happy to announce the second round of the Common Ground Studio!
The Common Ground Studio is a support program for artists who fled to or are exiled in Germany. It offers access to the Institute of Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts to people interested in studying fine arts. Each participant will be given the opportunity to take part in one of the specialist classes (Fachklasse) as a guest for one academic year – from October 2021 to mid-July 2022.
Participants can use this time to prepare their portfolio for the formal study application, better understand the fine arts program of the UdK, meet the students and professors, as well as develop their own artistic practice.
All artistic practices and disciplines are welcome. Please only consider applying if you can guarantee regular attendance and participate in meetings multiple times per month. Otherwise, you might be taking a spot away from someone who is ready to commit and could use our guidance during the study application process at UdK or another art university.

[:de]Was ist das Common Ground Studio?
Nach einem erfolgreichen ersten Jahr freuen wir uns, die zweite Runde des Common Ground Studios ankündigen zu können!
Das Common Ground Studio ist ein Förderprogramm für Künstler*innen, die nach Deutschland geflüchtet sind oder im Exil leben. Es bietet Kunstinteressierten den Zugang zum Institut der Bildenden Künste an der Universität der Künste Berlin. Jede*r Teilnehmer*in erhält die Möglichkeit, für die Dauer eines akademischen Jahres – von Oktober 2021 bis Mitte Juli 2022 – als Gast an einer der Fachklassen teilzunehmen.
Die Teilnehmer*innen können diese Zeit nutzen, um ihr Portfolio für die formale Studienbewerbung vorzubereiten, das Programm der Bildenden Kunst der UdK besser zu verstehen, Kontakt zu Studierenden und Lehrenden aufzubauen sowie ihre eigene künstlerische Praxis zu entwickeln.
Alle künstlerischen Praktiken und Disziplinen sind willkommen. Wir bitten darum, eine Bewerbung nur in Betracht zu ziehen, wenn eine regelmäßige Teilnahme garantiert werden und mehrmals im Monat an den Treffen teilgenommen werden kann. Wir können leider nur eine beschränkte Anzahl an Plätzen vergeben und möchten diese denjenigen zukommen lassen, die das Programm am Besten nutzen können.
Bitte sende uns folgende Unterlagen:
1. Ein persönliches Schreiben, in dem Sie Ihre Motivation, Ihr Interesse am Common Ground Studio und alles andere beschreiben, was wir Deiner Meinung nach wissen sollten!
2. Ein digitales PDF-Portfolio mit mindestens 5 und höchstens 15 Werke – bei Videos und Websites bitte die Links in das Dokument integrieren.
3. Einen Lebenslauf oder ein Dokument mit Ihren persönlichen Daten und Kontaktinformationen.
